Associate Director John Ottomar Groschwitz of the Center for East Asian Studies at Stanford University, visited on September 11, 2025, and was received by President Chun-i Chen. During the meeting, Associate Director Groschwitz mentioned to President Chen about one task that he is currently in charge of, the Berkeley-Stanford Graduate Student Conference in Modern Chinese Humanities; initiated in 2010, this conference is held annually and alternating between the UC Berkeley and Stanford campuses. It serves as a platform for graduate students from across the United States and around the world to present and share innovative research on modern Chinese culture. Specifically, this conference is overseen by a rotating committee of four faculty members and four graduate students from both institutions, and Associate Director Groschwitz noted that many doctoral students who once presented their research at this conference have returned as invited keynote speakers after securing faculty positions, embodying a profound sense of academic lineage and mentorship. President Chen expressed great interest in this conference and voiced his hope for future collaboration with the Center to promote research in Chinese cultural history.
