Director Philippe Peycam from the International Institute for Asian Studies at Leiden University visited on December 4, 2025, and was received by President Chun-i Chen and Vice-President Miaw-fen Lu. Director Peycam is also Professor of Asian Studies in the Global Context, Leiden Institute of Area Studies, Leiden University, and is a trained historian of Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia), specializing in knowledge production processes. He is the author of two monographs: The Birth of Vietnamese Political Journalism: Saigon, 1916-1930, and Cultural Renewal in Cambodia: Academic Activism in the Neoliberal Era. When President Chen visited Leiden University in June 2025, Director Peycam was unable to host him due to other commitments, he consequently took advantage of his time in Taipei for an academic visit to arrange a meeting with President Chen. During the meeting, Director Peycam outlined IIAS’ transitional challenges and corresponding activities he initiated, and also expressed a strong interest in exploring potential collaborations with the Foundation to promote Sinology research in Southeast Asia and Africa.
